Sapien’s work for Hillstream BioPharma presented at AACR

Sapien biobank evaluates novel drug candidates and formulations for global biotech and pharma companies using our proprietary panel of live cells and 3Dcellculture derived from cancer surgeries tissues. These are also called patient-derived cells or PDCs. Assays using PDCs are very valuable before going to clinical trials. We are delighted that our work done with a novel formulation in triple negative breastcancer (TNBC) proliferation and stemcell viability was included for the presentation at AACR.

Sapien receives DPIIT recognition

Pleased to get the certificate from #DPIIT. Heartfelt thanks to @Saravjeet Chahal who helped resolve the glitches at #StartUp India website due to CIN number mismatch.

Attention all Telangana startups that were formed in combined AP, before formation of Telangana, like #SapienBio, if you are facing persistent problems getting your application completed on #StartupIndia website, it may be due to your CIN number with AP not getting validated by MCA, and AP getting morphed to TG, which then creates other problems. Suggest contacting Saravjeet who will help. The tollfree call numbers did not. Thank you #nitiayog and @Sanjana Mohanty, @Aastha Grover for helping resolve our 8 month long quest for recognition.

Panel discussion on Innovation at the Academia Industry Synergy Day at NIPER-Hyderabad

NIPER Hyderabad had a star-studded Academia-Industry Synergy day on 23rd Aug, 2018. I was asked to moderate apanel on Innovation and Entrepreneurship. I chose to focus on the aspect of driving innovation already at NIPER-H towards commercialization. Invited Dr. Ashutosh of NIPER to identify where the gaps are, and put them to a panel of seasoned people drawn from industry in different areas of expertise spanning from technology transfer, chemistry, determining cell and animal model activity, development of pharmaceutical properties etc.

In the picture above, taken with the Director of NIPER, from left to right, my expert panellists were

  1. a) Sreenivas, ex-P&G, ex-Lilly, who started Sreeni Labs 11 years ago,
  2. b) Suresh Poosala, ex-BMS who just started OncoSeek Bio,
  3. c)Myself, ex-Vertex, who co-founded Sapien Biosciences and Saarum Sciences,
  4. d) Shashi Bala Singh, Director of NIPER-Hyd
  5. e) Anil Wali, FIIT
  6. f) Hemant Bhutani, ex-NIPER-Mohali, BMS-BBRC
  7. g) Ashutosh Kumar, ex-NIPER-Mohali, Associate Professor at NIPER-H

Dr. Suman Kapur of BITS-Pilani Hyd, had to leave early but she shared her challenges and experience of developing point of care diagnostic devices.

Many useful suggestions came from not just the panel but also students and members of the audience. These will be compiled and used to continue the dialogue with NIPER-H to see how best to implement them.
